Join us for the Inaugural CB UWI 5K at the UWI Mona Bowl

On Sunday, November 18, 2012, the inaugural CB Group UWI 5K Run will be held at The University of the West Indies for the benefit of education and the development of sports at the University with Caribbean Broilers as the Lead Sponsors and under the patronage of The Honourable Douglas Orane and Professor Gordon Shirley.

The Run is an initiative of Grand Jamaica Homecoming 2012 Canada which is a pan-Canadian organization spearheaded by a group of volunteers in Canada and Jamaica, to create an awakening and a “movement” to inspire Jamaicans and friends of Jamaica to “come home” and reconnect with the island in a meaningful way for its 50th anniversary of independence.

Funds generated from The Run will be used to award scholarships to outstanding academic achievers enrolled at UWI who demonstrate financial need and for University’s sports facilities to better serve in the development of student athletes.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Jamaica High Commission - Ottawa

October 4, 20112

A message from Her Excellency Sheila Sealy Monteith – High Commissioner of Jamaica to Canada.

TO ALL NATIONALS OF JAMAICA AND CANADIANS OF JAMAICAN HERITAGE:

The members of staff of the Jamaica High Commission in Ottawa join me in extending to you, your families and loves ones an enjoyable THANKSGIVING 2012.  This is an occasion to remind ourselves that there is much for which to be thankful, especially for those blessings which we oftentimes take for granted.

This year 2012 has been one which has provided many opportunities for us to give thanks for the achievements of our homeland Jamaica and for other countries like your home Canada which has sheltered, provided for and allowed you to realize your dreams.  Let us continue to celebrate the spirit of generosity which surrounds us on every side by in turn giving thanks.

In that vein, allow me to extend my deep appreciation to all of you FOR supporting my work and the High Commission and for the encouragement you have given us by your ready response to our requests for assistance.

With best wishes.

Sheila Sealy Monteith

High Commissioner
